Laurel man arrested for DUI after leaving a traffic stop

LAUREL, Del. – A man was arrested in Laurel for a DUI after fleeing a traffic stop.
On March 15, 2024, at approximately 9:24 P.M., a Laurel Police Department officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on Wilson Street in Laurel. The officer stopped a car for a traffic violation and the registered owner was flagged for an active warrant with a suspended driver’s license.
While approaching the vehicle the officer smelled marijuana coming from the car windows. Police say the driver was uncooperative and drove away during the traffic stop, causing the officer to initiate a brief vehicle pursuit into HOllybrook Apartments. When the driver stopped and exited the vehicle, he resisted arrest and was taken into custody.
Due to multiple indicators of marijuana impairment, the officer initiated a DUI investigation and determined that the driver was impaired to the point of being unable to operate a vehicle safely.
