Wicomico Co. Public Schools ask for public input on potential policy changes

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County Public Schools (WCPS) are asking for the public’s input on potential policy changes. The Wicomico County Board of Education plans to revisit the school district’s policy on selection and review of media resources.

“Our board has determined that they want to split those into two separate policies,” said Chief Finance and Operations Officer for WCPS, Dr. Brian Raygor. “So, we would have one policy that’s going to be basically unchanged on the content and curriculum instruction materials. And then, [we have] a new policy based on selection and review of media resources.”

Dr. Raygor says school leaders want to separate the policy into two, in order to take a closer look at each set of rules. He says they concern the process of selection, approval, and potential reconsideration of media resource materials.

“We feel it’s important that the public had the opportunity to provide input on board policy,” Dr. Raygor said. “We provide this opportunity through our website. In the case of the newest policy, the media resources, it is one that some members of the public have expressed some interest in.”

The Board’s next meeting is March 13th, and Dr. Raygor says any opinions submitted before then will be considered during the meeting. You can take a look at the policies here. To submit your opinions, email Comments@WCBOE.org. You can also mail them to Dr. Brian Raygor, WCPS, 2424 Northgate Dr., Salisbury, MD 21801.
