BHM: Bus tour coming to Somerset County

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – In Somerset County, a black history bus tour is on the horizon.

The Somerset County NAACP is hosting the event. The tour will take a look at historical sites in Princess Anne including St. Marks United Methodist Church and a baseball park. There will also be discussions surrounding historical events and even lynchings that happened on the lower shore.

Members of the NAACP say being able to see these historical markings gives tour-goers a better grasp on history.

“There are so many places they have never heard of, a lot of sites aren’t in history books,” said Shelley Johnson of the Somerset County NAACP. “This will give them an opportunity to see history, rich history we have in Somerset County. I feel the bus tour will be important because we’re getting a visual of some of the places that are still standing as well as some of the landmarks, we’ll get to physically see.”

The program will include transportation and food. Tickets are free and you can find more information by emailing Shelley Johnson.
