Wicomico Liquor board change top of mind for Legisaltive Session

Bill To End Alchohol Monopoly

This session Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano says they will be moving legislation forward on the state level to end the county’s monopoly on liquor sales to businesses.

Currently, businesses like distilleries or even liquor stores have to buy the alcohol from the county board to be able to sell it back.

Giordano tells us she hopes ending the practice can help streamline operations for the businesses.

“It’s going to change our liquor laws, which will be exciting for our business owners here, so for basic consumers, nothing’s going to change, you’ll still have your county dispensaries, but our business owners who own restaurants and license holders will be able to purchase from whatever distributor they would like,” she said.

Giordano says she does not expect the change to have an impact on county revenue collections.
