Sussex Central HS lawsuit dismissed
SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – We’ve been following the lawsuit centering on a former Sussex Central High student.
Plaintiff Aniya Harmon claims former principal Bradley Layfield and administrator Matthew Jones took part in creating and sharing an inappropriate photo of her exposed breast. Both Indian River School District and Sussex Central are in the clear. A judge dismissed the case against them saying neither administrator’s actions were conducted within the quote “scope of their employment.”
We heard from the attorney for Dr. Layfield earlier Tuesday who says the civil case against him is without merit and they will be seeking to have it dismissed. An attorney for Harmon says they plan to refile the case once more information comes to light about the role of the school district.
“Our lawsuit against the two men we believe are responsible for sharing video of her exposed breast at Sussex Central High School continues and we are pursuing every legal avenue for justice for Ms. Harmon.
As for Dr. Layfield, he is fighting his firing from the school. His attorney says that the issue will be heard by the school board next month. In the meantime, he plans to continue to rehabilitate his reputation.
That school board discharge hearing is set for February 15th.
