Medicare coverage now expanding to cover more mental health services
DELMARVA – As of January 1, changes have been made to the Medicare system.
With the new changes to the medicare system, Ian Bolland with Balance Point Wellness says that healthcare providers can serve more patients, ultimately expanding access.
Bolland says it couldn’t be happening at a more pressing time. “Finding mental health has been difficult and with an increase in anxiety and depression a lot of mental health facilities have struggled to meet the demand of services and especially with medicare clients,” says Ian Bolland, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Before 2024, only advanced social workers were eligible to bill for medicare insurance. Now, licensed clinical professional counselors and licensed clinical marriage and family therapists are eligible to bill Medicare clients.
Bolland says Medicare is recognizing more licenses into their network, in turn increasing options for medicare clients.
If you’re looking for more affordable care, Bolland says you can look into sliding scale pay option facilities. Balance Point Wellness has also expanded its offices into Delaware and Pennsylvania.
