Malfunctioning kerosene heater sparks house fire in Fishing Creek

FISHING CREEK, Md. – The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident after a fire damaged a home in Dorchester County on Thursday afternoon.

At 2:27 p.m., the Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Department responded to Old House Point Road in Fishing Creek, finding a two-story home on fire. Firefighters were able to control the fire in under half an hour.

Investigators say the fire started on the kitchen floor after a kerosene heater malfunctioned.
