Delaware State Police investigate deadly crash in Milford

MILFORD, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Thursday morning in Milford.

Around 6:35 a.m., police say an Acura sedan rear-ended a Chrysler mid-size vehicle while traveling southbound on Bay Road. Both drivers pulled over, say police, with the Chrysler pulling into the median and the Acura pulling to the southbound shoulder.

Investigators say the driver of the Acura got out of his vehicle and began crossing the highway, when he was struck by an oncoming Toyota minivan. The driver of the Acura, later identified as a 78-year-old Larry Cox from Smyrna, died as a result of the collision.

After striking the driver of the Acura, police say the Toyota swerved, and struck a Ford compact car in another lane. The driver of the Ford, identified as a 43-year-old Woodside man, was not hurt, say police. A 66-year-old Laurel woman was identified as the driver of the Toyota; police say she was treated at a local hospital, while a 15-year-old female passenger was not hurt.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 28-year-old Dover man, and passengers identified as a 25-year-old Camden woman and a 46-year-old Newark woman, were also treated at a local hospital.

The roadway was closed for four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
