Community Support Center open, collecting donations
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wednesday we’re seeing some nicer weather, but officials say homeless individuals are still trying to stay warm.
Three people died over the weekend in the cold conditions. One place they can get resources is at the Wicomico County Public Library’s Community Support Center. Library officials say they opened the center to provide help to some of our community’s most vulnerable people. With housing costs going up, library officials say it’s getting harder to find affordable living.
But with the community support center, they are making a difference. “I have food, I have cold-weather clothing, I have blankets. In the center itself, I do job applications unemployment help connect people to social services and basically route them through the shelters if I’m able to or connect them to caseworkers,” said Seth Hershberger, Executive Director of Wicomico Public Libraries.
The support center is also looking for volunteers to help out. If you have donations, you can drop them off at the Paul Sarbanes branch in downtown Salisbury.
