17-year-old faces felonies after bringing loaded gun to Cape Henlopen High School

LEWES, Del. – A 17-year-old Cape Henlopen High School student is facing felony charges after police say they brought a loaded handgun to school.
Delaware State Police say the arrest was made at the school at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday. A school resource officer was notified by a staff member that a student in the building possibly had a firearm in their possession, police say.
The teen’s backpack was searched, and police say they discovered a loaded 9mm handgun. The teen was arrested without incident, according to police. No students or staff were harmed.
Police say the teen is charged with carrying a concealed firearm, and possession of a firearm in a safe school zone; both, felonies. The teen was committed to Stevenson House Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond.
