Drugs, handgun confiscated in Sussex County traffic stop

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – Two Sussex County men are behind bars on weapon and drug charges following a Tuesday afternoon traffic stop.

The Sussex County Governor’s Task Force was conducting a patrol when members spotted a silver Nissan Altima that failed to stop at a stop sign in Millsboro. Troopers conducted a traffic stop, identifying the driver as 30-year-old Jervis Cox of Bridgeville, and the passenger as 24-year-old Devantay Clanton of Ellendale.

Police say that a trooper noticed the handle of a handgun sticking out of Cox’s jacket while speaking with him. Cox and Clanton were asked to exit the vehicle, and were both arrested without incident.

Inside the vehicle, police say they found 117 bags of heroin, 102.84 grams of cocaine, and 37.93 grams of crack cocaine. Troopers also say they confiscated a 9mm handgun, as well as more than $1,000 in suspected drug money.

Cox is facing ten felony charges, covering drug and weapons offenses. He is also charged with felony conspiracy second degree, possession of a controlled/counterfeit substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and traffic-related offenses. Cox is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $169,050 cash bond.

Clanton is charged with three counts of felony possession with intent to deliver controlled substance, and felony conspiracy second degree. He is also charged with three counts of possessions of controlled/counterfeit substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Clanton is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $23,500 cash bond.
