Worcester Co. crime proving to be on a downward trend
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester County crime statistics indicate that the area is getting safer.
The information is tracked through an FBI system called NIBRS. Sheriff Matt Crisafulli says it’s a more detailed and inclusive system when logging specific incidents. Crime overall is down in the county but simple assaults make up for the majority of it.
There were 32 burglaries in 2021, down from 18 in 2022. Theft from motor vehicles was 50 in 2021, compared to 15 in 2022. And theft of motor vehicles was 17 in 2021 with 8 incidents in 2022.
To maintain crime on a downward trend, Sheriff Crisafulli says we all have a part to play. “Have lighting on your residence, business, at night time, a well-lit home is a deterrent to crime so there are things that our community members can do to harden the target,” said Sheriff Crisafulli.
Sheriff Crisafulli also says that if you see something, say something. Community partners can help by being an additional eye and ear in the community by reporting suspicious activities.
