Transparency and presence a priority for OPPD Chief Tim Robinson

New Vision For Oppd

OCEAN PINES, MD –  Wednesday marks 3 months into the tenure of Ocean Pines Police Chief Tim Robinson, taking over for a chief who was placed on leave for a burglary investigation and then retired.

“I’m bringing a lot of the leadership skills that I learned a lot of the best practices that I learned with working with the Wicomico Sheriff’s office, working for Mike Lewis, and I’m bringing them here and putting them in a place to do it,” Robinson said adding “I want everybody in ocean pines and surrounding areas need anything my door is open and I am here to serve.”

Top of mind for Chief Robinson; modernizing the Department and increasing accountability with the help of state grants.

“Major thing we’ve undertaken is redoing all our agency policies and also bringing policies into the stuff that’s very good, the best police practices, also making sure we’re compliant with federal and state law. And also we’re doing things internally like making sure the officers are here, are properly taken care of,” Robinson said.

The chief says that will include a new website for the department to better communicate with the community, better bookkeeping and internal practices, and even how officers will respond to calls.

“Everything from the use of force to investigate, you know, crimes against elderly domestic violence things or new policies about our police departments such as pursuits, you know, pursuits in 2023, a very dangerous activity of new guidelines to, you know, when and when and where we can engage in a pursuit,” he said.

Chief Robinson says Ocean Pines is one of the safest communities in the state- and he wants to give a clear idea- of how officers are working to keep it that way.

“We’re trying to operate on that level and provide at the same time provide the level of service that our residents here in Ocean Pines expect,” Robinson said.

He tells us moving forward he is also locked in on hiring, as he says the Department is offering competitive salaries and looking to fill as many positions as possible.
