Pocomoke City residents face dozens of animal cruelty and neglect charges

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Two Pocomoke City residents are facing a combine total of 72 counts of animal cruelty and animal neglect charges.

On October 2nd, Worcester County Animal Control responded to the 500 block of Bonneville Avenue for an animal complaint. When officers arrived, they found two dogs on the front porch in a crate, with one of them being deceased. While on the front porch, investigators say they observed other evidence of dogs being neglected.

Kierra Sturgis and Lemond Williams, the residents, refused to meet with Animal Control Officers on scene, say police. The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation helped Animal Control obtain a warrant.

When officers entered the home, they found two more dogs, who they say were extremely emaciated, and in poor condition. Officers also reported a lack of food and water. The two additional dogs were seized, and all dogs are in the custody of Worcester County Animal Control. Police say the animals are being treated by a veterinarian.

Sturgis and Williams are being held without bond, as they await trial.
