Live to Work program launched in Seaford

SEAFORD, Del. – The City of Seaford has a new cash incentive for certain residents.

The annual payment goes to employees who have been living within city limits for one year. It’s applicable to renters and homeowners, however probationary and part-time employees are not eligible for the incentive.

If you’re looking to get in on the incentive, the city has a range of opportunities for you to get in on. “All the way from administration, right at city hall. We have entry-level positions, such as customer service representatives that greet customers, building code, finance, and other places like parks and rec,” said Vice Mayor Dan Henderson.

Vice Mayor Henderson explains that this change will support the growth of Seaford. He says it will create a better sense of connection between the taxpayer and the city employee.

It essentially levels the playing field, by allowing residents to know that their city employees are experiencing similar situations. “I think it’s reassuring to the taxpayers and the ratepayers that if city employees choose to live in the city, they are going through the same things, and experiencing the same things, problems, and the opportunities that they are,” said Vice Mayor Dan Henderson.

The incentive goes into effect on January first. The allotment may be pro-rated for a partial year of residency.
