UPDATE: Early morning crash claims life of one in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of one early Sunday morning.

At around 1:15 a.m., police say a white Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling eastbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway, east of Fawn Lane, when it reportedly veered off the edge of the roadway and crashed into a tree before catching fire.

The driver, a 26-year-old Georgetown man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

The road was closed for roughly four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
