DSU ranked the fastest-growing HBCU in the country

DOVER, Del. – Enrollment is soaring at Delaware State University as it claims the title of fastest-growing Historically Black Colleges and University in the country.

Overall enrollment is up 3.5% for the Fall of this year. The 132-year-old institution now has 6,451 students over last year. Seeing growth all around, the graduate profile for the university is also up 7%.

DSU officials explain what it takes to help the growth of the university. “Making a place where folks can call home, home, so persons come to Delaware State University just for that. They come for the diversity, programs of study, faculty engagement with them, and our research portfolios,” said Tony Boyle, the Senior Vice President of Strategic Enrollment and Internal Affairs at Delaware State University.

“Every single person on the campus makes it worthwhile to be a part of Delaware State University. They come and make their own mark, make their own difference, and do their own transformational things to make things happen. So we say to young people, you want a place to go, you want a place to come and be a part of the great legacy, but more importantly, a place that will prepare you for your next thing or your future,” Boyle added.

The university is also working to prepare high school students for higher education. DSU currently has 174 high school students enrolled in college coursework.

Boyle says these records don’t stop here. “We’re looking at 7500 students by 2026, we’re looking at 10,000 students by 2030. And we’re looking at not only agreements to make that a reality, we’re looking at engaging more and more young people that will come to campus and study here face to face. We will have a contingency that makes up those numbers as well. We’ll have a large graduate population that speaks to the masses and doctoral work that we are doing here on campus. We will do a lot more research and engagement, at the undergrad and graduate level.”
