Customers catch deals for Thanksgiving shopping
SALISBURY, Md. – At local supermarkets, customers are shopping down to the last hour to catch last-minute deals.
“There’s enough places to buy food the question is do you have the money to buy it,” said shopper Darrell Leffingweol.
Now down to the wire, shopper Craig Fuance at the Grocery Outlet says one of the struggles he’s facing includes finding specific items.“I’m looking for a turkey that’s already cooked, prepared because we’re getting to the late part of the season, and coming out here we need to try to find something that’s already ready so we don’t have to take all the time to prepare,” said Fuance.
Other customers say with life circumstances and the state of the economy, saving an extra dollar makes all the difference. “Coupons with the economy being what it is – I mean a veteran, veterans are really facing a lot of difficulties this time of year. People that have been displaced being able to have a store like the outlet store makes it nice to people who live on fixed incomes like myself,” said Leffingweol. In the store, deals can be the gift of Thanksgiving. “You got four boxes, four dollar saltine crackers you can’t beat that,” said Perry Banks.
“I even got a three-dollar coupon off in my pocket because I’m a first-time shopper, so three dollars in your gas tank, it makes a difference when you don’t have. I mean I’m lucky but I don’t have an unlimited income,” added Fuance.
But either way, no matter the prices, he hopes everyone enjoys the holidays. “I just hope everyone gets as much time to spend with their family because that’s what it’s all about,” said Fuance. One shopper says he believes deals make the difference, explaining that something simple like a $3 coupon could go to gas savings. With the average gas price at $3.28, according to AAA, every dime counts.
