Cambridge PD sub station up and running, working to reduce crime

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A new police substation is up and running in Cambridge.

“You shouldn’t have to leave your apartment complex to live in a safe environment,” said Cambridge City Manager, Tom Carrol.

At the Altair Apartments in Cambridge, Cambridge Police Department has a substation set up to help reduce crime in the area. “We had a crime issue going on for some time there in that area, in that neighborhood there’s been several assaults, aggressive assaults, shootings, homicides,” said Chief Justin Todd with the Cambridge Police Department.

At the substation, officers will be keeping a close watch to reduce these violent crimes. “Inspecting individual units and working with the management to improve the grounds and make sure that they’re fulfilling their obligations under the HUD financial stipulations,” Carrol explained.

Cambridge Police Chief Justin Todd says that if you are a part of the problem, that ends now. “If you’re a part of the criminal element in that community, you’re not going to be, you’re not going to stay there any longer. You’re not going to continue and harass the residents who are trying to live their life out there, trying to do good for their children and families,” said Chief Todd.

Chief Todd adds that the best way to strengthen the rapport in the community is to be a part of it. “To do an attempt to put a stop to this. Reduce the crime that’s going on in that neighborhood and make it safer for our residents. We decided what better way than to set up a substation there and be in the area and be a part of that community,” said Chief Justin Todd.

City manager Tom Carrol says there are multiple apartment complexes they are keeping an eye on. Chief Justin Todd asks anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it.
