SU Psychology Dept. to host Halloween event for kids with sensory issues

Spooktacular Halloween Fall 2023

SALISBURY, Md –  An event hosted by the SU Psychology program aims to give children with sensory challenges a less stimulating, but still fulfilling Halloween experience.

SU’s physiological disorders class will be hosting the event at Salisbury City Park, with more than 75 families already enrolled in the spooktacular sensory experience
which includes games and activities.

organizers say they want kids who are easily overstimulated by a traditional Halloween – to get in on the fun, with events being run by SU students and volunteers across other SU departments.

“There’ll be carnival games for children to play as well as a trick-or-treat trail. We try to keep the crowds small so that they’re not overwhelming for children, and we limit things like loud noises or bright lights and things like that, so that is a kind of a more calm atmosphere for all children to enjoy with their families,”  SU Psychology Professor Rhyannon Bemis.

The event is set to begin at 5 to 6:30 p.m. on October 7th.
