Somerset County Public Schools looking for Book Fairies
SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – In Somerset County, the school district is looking for book fairies.
It’s a way to make sure every student gets to take home a book at the school book fairs. The book fair is being put on across elementary and middle schools within the district. This marks the second year the school district is doing this, last year only Carter G. Woodson Elementary School participated with 42 students going home with free books.
The school district says with your donation, you give a student the chance to read something new. “If a student has their own book in their household they’re more likely to see that as part of their culture and value that. They see that as a way to entertain themselves or to find information and something that they choose, that they pick out, they they can turn to and it can take them to another world, or show them something cool that they might not have seen otherwise,” said Jill Holland, Supervisor of Social Studies and Media for Somerset County Public Schools.
The book fair is already underway at Princess Anne Elementary. If you want to become a book fairy, you can donate on the school’s website, on that link you can also donate to other schools.
