Ocean City Council approves EMS training program for OCFD Firefighters

Ems Training

OCEAN CITY, MD- Ocean City town council Tuesday, approved a new training program for the fire department aimed at boosting EMS hiring.

The program would pay 10 certified ocean city firefighters to take a 9-week course, that would bring them to proficiency in emergency medical services.

Ocean City Fire Chief Richard Bowers says the program can be very demanding, but that it will help them improve their services.

“We will compensate people that are firefighter one certified but do not have EMT to take the EMT class and then become in an Ocean City part-time employee that has been a firefighter, on to become an EMT,” Bowers said.

Bowers says those in the class will be compensated at 17.90 an hour for the duration of the course, which is expected to have an 80 percent success rate.

The Town Council vote authorizes the program to begin in the Fall of 2024.
