New expungement resource to launch August 2024
DELAWARE – A new resource is available on the Clean Slate Hub site.
It’s a digital tool to help better navigate the resources for those looking to start fresh. Officials a part of the Clean Slate initiative say in the past, navigating the expungement process could be both costly and timely and that people needed help understanding such a complicated process. John Reynolds says 290,000 people are eligible for mandatory expungement and just over 1,000 people received that expungement in the past year.
Reynolds says these additions were necessary for those looking to get back into society. “Clearing someone’s record enables them to access better economic opportunities through jobs, as well as educational ones, find more secure housing so they can better take care of themselves and their families,” John Reynolds the Deputy Police and Advocacy Director of ACLU said.
The updated resource will have a chatbot launched through the Office of Defense Services. It will generate potential outcomes based on self-reported information that will allow individuals to learn what types of charges may be eligible for expungement or pardon services.
The resource’s launch starts the countdown for the Delaware Clean State law that’s set to go into effect in August 2024. You can check out the resource on their website.
