Delmarva Power donates smoke detector

SALISBURY, Md – The Fire department and Fire Marshall’s offices from across Delmarva gathered at the Salisbury Airport to receive a donation of smoke detectors from DelmarvaPower.
It’s part of an annual push that sees the company chipping in to help prevent fires in homes since 1999.
Speaking at the event fire officials pointed to 67 deaths in Maryland to date, saying in a majority of the cases fire alarms were not present, disabled or not charged.
Delmarva Power says they are hoping their efforts can help to prevent incidents like those from taking place.
“We’re donating over 2000 to the state fire marshal’s office and it’s actually over 3000 between the state of Maryland and Delaware that we have donated, and we’ve since the program’s inception in 1999, we’ve done need over 48,000 smoke alarms,” said Delmarva Power spokeswoman Candice Womer.
Womer says those alarms will out to departments across the shore that will be raising awareness locally for households in need to take advantage of the free alarms.
