17-year-old charged with murder, missing Hurlock man’s remains found

KENT COUNTY, Del. – A 17-year-old has been charged with the murder of a missing Hurlock, Maryland man. Shakur Bowen is facing multiple charges.

On September 22nd, 41-year-old David Thomas Jr. was reported missing by family members. Investigators say Thomas had visited family in Kent County on September 15th, borrowed a car from a family member, and never returned. Detectives issued a Gold Alert shortly after.

On September 29th, investigators found human remains in a ditch located in Meadowbrook Acres. The Division of Forensic Science confirmed the remains were those of Thomas.

Bowen was identified as the suspect, and was arrested on October 2nd. He is charged with first degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, hindering prosecution, abusing a corpse, and third degree conspiracy. Bowen is being held on $500,000 cash bond. cash bond.
