1 person dead, 2 injured in Laurel shooting, family cries for answers

LAUREL, Del. – One person is dead and two others are injured following a shooting Sunday afternoon in Laurel. Now community members asking what is going on in their community.

“I just want justice for my little brother he deserves that,” said a victim’s Sister, Daeja Drayton.

Delaware State Police now investigating a shooting in Laurel that happened Sunday afternoon. “In the 500 block of West 7th Street, here in Laurel, three teenage males were standing in front of a residence when two other unknown subjects approached and fired several rounds at the three teenagers striking them,” said Corporal Lewis Briggs with Delaware State Police.

Delaware State Police does not have any suspects in custody, yet they say there is no threat to the public at this time. “This is an isolated incident to this specific location and this was not an active shooter situation,” said Corporal Briggs.

The sister of one of the victims says this was a tragic incident leaving her mourning the loss of her younger brother. “I feel like they have stripped me of everything. My little brother was only 18 years old he did not deserve this, he did not. He was such a good soul. He was such a quiet person, he loved to rap,” said Corporal Briggs.

Daeja Drayton says following recent crime involving teens in Laurel, for safety reasons, she thinks it’s best to move out of the area. “It’s kids — just stay in school, get as far away from here as you can. It’s just not okay, people have to bury their children before they die it’s not okay” said Drayton.

She’s pleading with the public for anyone to come forward with what they saw or may have seen on their home surveillance videos. “If anybody knows anything, anybody — any type of information just please get justice for my brother. He deserves that. He did not deserve this, if you know anything please come forward please,” said Drayton.
