Rep. Shupe raising money for interactive proficiency maps in Del.

DELAWARE – A Delaware lawmaker is pushing for interactive proficiency maps.

He says its a way to keep parents up to date with how their child is doing. These maps will allow every parent across Delaware to know whether their child is at a high or low proficiency rate in school.

In last year’s legislative session, the House of Representatives supported the vote and the Senate vetoed it, however, Representative Bryan Shupe says the need for these maps is growing across Delaware schools. “And what can I do as a parent to help my child? Does the school need to have more intervention with math or english with my child and how can I help out at home? The second one is if it is to a point or you feel as though the school can not help you out, there is school choice in Delaware and you need to be aware of that as well. It’s giving parents more information so they can make the best choice for their child’s educational career,” said Rep. Shupe.

Representative Shupe is partnering with DelawareCAN to raise $15,000 to make a website with that information. He says that way if legislation doesn’t pass it, it can still be available.

A meeting to learn more about this initiative will happen on September 30th on Zoom.
