National Pickleball tournament underway at Harmon Field in Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md – The Harmon Field pickleball courts this week are seeing some national attention and competition, as the new pickleball courts hosted the USA pickleball mid-Atlantic Diamond Regional.
Over 220 registered players from 17 states visited Wicomico County, with tourism officials estimating the tournament will bring over $615,000 in economic impact.
Wicomico County Tourism officials say they wanted to build a facility to the highest standards that can host these national tournaments and are glad to see its potential be realized.
“With the courts being new and we really scurried to get some tournaments in there this summer, so now we’re working with those same organizers to try to lock them in for next year, so that would be us, a pickleball, we did a senior pickleball tournament earlier this summer, so we’ll be working with those same organizers, and then we’ve just started our sales show season where we actually go to national conferences to try to recruit events here into the county,” said Wicomico County Tourism Director Kristen Goller.
Wicomico County Tourism says it’s not just about the big tournaments though, encouraging locals to take advantage of the facility as long as weather permits.
