Felton man arrested on gun, drug charges after leading police on vehicle chase

FELTON, Del. – A Felton man is behind bars after police say he led them on a pursuit.

On August 31st, around 9:15 a.m., Delaware State Police say 36-year-old Todd Hockensmith fled from troopers with several warrants from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office. During the chase, police say Hockensmith crashed into a carport, and an unoccupied Ford F150, before running away. No injuries were reported in the crash.

Caroline County Sheriff’s deputies were able to capture Hockensmith. Inside of his vehicle, police say they found ammunition, two concealed shotguns, stolen personal identification cards, and stolen bank cards. Police say one of the identification cards was linked to a burglary investigation out of Troop 3.

Police also found about 0.54 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms. A computer search revealed that Hockensmith’s warrants included burglary, theft, and other traffic offenses issued by Delaware State Police.

Hockensmith is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He is also charged with receiving stolen property under $1,500, possession of a controlled substance, and numerous traffic offenses. Hockensmith is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $71,753 secured bond.
