DSP to use new fingerprinting tech to help with employment process

DELAWARE – Delaware State Police have some new tech that’s set out to make the background check process go a lot faster.

“We serve the children, and we have to make sure the most important thing that we do is keep the children and our students safe,” said Jason Cameron with the Seaford School District.

At the press of a finger your potential employer can now have your background check within 5 days here at the state bureau of identification. “The Delaware State Police partnered with IdentGO which is a company that specializes in the collection of applicant biometrics, fingerprints we use those fingerprints to determine somebody’s suitability for hiring and whatever industry they are applying for,” said Captain John Lloyd.

It’s a service that has been operating for years, however now more efficiently. “We’ve increased our footprint from 3 locations to 9 locations throughout the state. This provides greater accessibility for our customer base and also extends our hours of availability for people to submit their fingerprint,” explain Captain Lloyd.

Necessary upgrades made as Captain John Lloyd with Delaware State Police says a background check is a necessity for certain types of employment. “This helps all the industries that are legally mandated to review somebody’s criminal history prior to hiring them this helps them to better make those decisions more effectively and more quickly,” said Captain Lloyd.

Those industries include healthcare, criminal justice, and the school system. On the rare occasion your background check doesn’t come back clear, Seaford School District says action is taken before getting hired. “If something comes back on a CBC thats questionable then a conversation is had, then you sign on that form. I always make a note on that form that we had a conversation and we’re okay,” said Cameron.

Jason Cameron with the School District says this is a big responsibility and a promise that Seaford School District will prioritize safety.

“We want to make sure: parents trust us with something important everyday, their most important thing that they have in this world. Their child, we take their education, their safety very serious, so the CBC ensures that the children working with their children are compliant,” explained Cameron.

Before this change, the process for fingerprinting and background check results could take up to a month.

Police say that if you come in to get your background check, make sure you have the service code to be correctly processed.
