UPDATE: Fatal crash under investigation in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of one Sunday evening.

At around 5:20 p.m., police say a white 2017 Ford Escort was speeding southbound on Clapham Road. At the same time, a black 2023 Mazda CX-30 was traveling northbound on Clapham Road. For unknown reasons, the Ford reportedly failed to stay in its lane and crossed the center line of Clapham Road. The Mazda swerved to the right to try to avoid hitting the Ford but was unable to do so, ultimately colliding. The Ford veered off the roadway into a wooded area, rolled onto its right side, and crashed into a cluster of trees before coming to a stop. The Mazda spun in the road and came to a stop in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Ford, a 63-year-old Magnolia man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Mazda, a 16-year-old Milford girl was not injured. An 11-year-old passenger in the Mazda was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
