Delaware State Housing Authority announces final round of mortgage, home repair assistance

Cambridge Housing PlanDELAWARE – The Delaware State Housing Authority is announcing the final round of 20 million dollars in federal funding to help homeowners in the state with their home repair and mortgage payments.

The Delaware Mortgage Relief Program (DEMRP), Delaware Diamonds Home Loan, and Home Sweet Home Program are now nearing the end of their allocated funding. Delawareans are encouraged to apply now or explore alternative assistance programs offered by DSHA.

DEMRP provides up to $50,000 for housing-related delinquencies such as mortgage, property tax, homeowners association, and homeowner insurance payments, and up to $20,000 for critical home repairs, including mold and mildew remediation, lead-based paint removal, roof replacement, heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing repairs, and the repair, replacement, or installation of accessibility aids such as hand railings, ramps, grab bars and wider doorways.

“We were allocated one-time payment of 50 million and we have just reached 30 million in assistance distributed. So so far we’ve helped over 2500, though we’re homeowners and we believe that we can serve perhaps a thousand more depending on the types of assistance needed,” said DSHA Communications Director Laurie Stoval.

Stoval tells 47ABC  that for  Sussex County, the income limit for a single household is 96,200 for mortgage relief and 49,000 for home repair.

The mortgage assistance can be used to pay for any delinquent payments or future payments up to 6 months.
