Crisfield Boil Water Advisory in effect after accidental waterline puncture
CRISFIELD, Md – The City of Crisfield issuing a boil water advisory, as of 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
Mayor Darlene Taylor says in preparation for the Tawes Crab and Clam bake next week, a stake was accidentally driven through a water line, resulting in water being cut off for the city.
water service was restored this morning, but because of how long it was shut off, the boil water advisory has been issued.
The advisory will remain in place until September 24th as a precaution while samples are sent to a lab to be tested.
Mayor Taylor says this shouldn’t be a future issue though, as the city plans to implement new technology they just had a meeting on earlier this week.
“We were already working on a project that will put in isolation valves so that if a situation like this occurred in the future, we don’t have to shut down the whole town, but we can section it off and just shut down sections, so I’m happy to report that, the day after that event, it began, so today they put in the first isolation valve in the very area where we had the problem last night,” Taylor said.
Taylor tells 47ABC the delay in restoration of service was due to faulty mapping of where the line was located, and its proximity to an electrical line that required the assitance of Delmarva Power to shut off power to the site to allow crews to access the line.
