Wicomico Goes Purple gearing up to celebrate 5 years

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico Goes Purple is celebrating 5 years of finding solutions and raising awareness around substance abuse.

47 ABC spoke with the chairman of the event who says there is a plethora of activities lined up for the event. Christina Bowie-Simpson says they want to get the community involved by starting conversations surrounding the issue in a family-oriented way.

Wicomico County is currently seeing a decrease in statistics, yet there have still been some overdoses. “Preliminary data shows that the amount of overdose fatalities may have decreased but we really are still seeing a lot of non-fatal overdoses really occurring in our community,” Bowie-Simpson explained.

The kickoff event is September 9th at the Shore Birds Stadium with fireworks and resources.
