SBY residents want bag ban ordinace updated to reflect 10c for carry-out

SALISBURY, Md. – The plastic bag ban has been in effect for a little over 2 months.

And if you don’t have your own bag you have to pay 10 cents for a paper bag.

The plastic bag ban is the city’s effort to reduce trash, however, city officials say residents have some concerns, that if you go through the drive through or get your food through carry out you have to get a bag.

Council President Muir Boda saying its not sanitary to get your burger and fries in your hand, so the City plans to reevaluate the ordinance to keep both the business and consumer happy.

“We’re going to look at some language excluding that because there are situations where people don’t have a choice, so we feel that with food products it’s also considered part of the packaging when they’re using paper bags. We’re going to look at excluding those businesses from that, said Boda.

The city council will discuss the language of the ordinance at their next work session, as legal and administration are set to make changes to better support everyone.
