Peach Festival returns to Berlin
BERLIN, Md – Festival goers packed the streets of Berlin for the town’s Annual Peach Festival Saturday, trying all kinds of foods based on the official fruit of the town.
The event saw peach wine, pie, ice cream, and more from businesses both at the festival grounds in front of the Taylor Museum and in the historic downtown.
One bake shop went above and beyond, baking over 1,200 dumplings for the occasion.
“It is literally the biggest day of our year historically, and by the looks of the crowds in town, I don’t think this year is going to be an exception, so it’s an incredible festival for the entire town,” said Baked Desert Cafe owner Robin Tomaselli adding “We did a lot of peach candles, the peach-scented candles, we sold out of those pretty early, I thought it was, you know, they’d last all day, but a lot of neat little novelty, peach things around town, hats, you know, people getting creative every year.”
Organizers say it’s the biggest sales day of the year for all businesses across the town from clothing, food, and antiques, all participating and offering peach-themed items.
“We did a lot of peach candles, we sold out of those pretty early, but you see people getting creative every year with all kinds of peached theme items,” said Chauncey Rhoades of Viking Tree Trading Company.
Rhoades tells 47ABC the event sees the number of people in his store triple compared to a typical Saturday.
The event, put on by the Taylor museum highlights the town’s unique history with the iconic fruit and helps keep that history alive.
All businesses that participated with peach items donated ten percent of all proceeds to the museum.
“This year we ended up buying 30 more crates to make sure that we have enough peaches to get through the day, we got our peach slushie drink for sale and all those proceeds go to help the Taylor House Museum tell the stories of Berlin,” said Taylor House President Melissa Reid.
Reid tells 47ABC this year the event saw the most visitors, and the most businesses participating highlighting the economic strength of the town.
“It gives small businesses an opportunity to be in Berlin and get their foot in the door and bring some economic stability to Berlin, which we’re really we’re really glad for,” she said.
