Crisfield celebrates federal funds headed to small biz. incubator project
CRISFIELD, Md – The City of Crisfield is celebrating federal funds being allocated for the city’s businesses incubator project, following an announcement of the earmark by Maryland Senator Ben Cardin and Chirs Van Hollen.
Maryland Senator Ben Cardin’s office is announcing $500,000 to help revitalize a city-owned building on the main street, which was built in 1928 and has been vacant for over a decade.
Located on a street with over two dozen vacant storefronts, the city leaders are hoping these federally earmarked funds will drive economic activity.
Crisfield’s grant writer tells us the funds are key to making the main street more attractive for new businesses.
“It is a city-owned building that was built in 1928. I’ve been inside it. It has beautiful windows and high ceilings. It’s just really a gem. And it’s wonderful to know that we can begin the process of revitalizing, revitalizing it, and creating a business incubator,” said Grant Director for Crisfield Jen Merritt.
The funding was included in the proposed Senate Appropriations Interior and Environment funding bill for FY 2024, which is still working its away through the legislative process. Officials tell us that it was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee last month and is ready for consideration by the full Senate, but the funding is not finalized until the Appropriations bills are passed by the Senate, reconciled with the House of Representatives, and signed by the President.
