Seaford PD looking to fill 5 more staff positions

SEAFORD, Del. – The teens in the Junior Youth Police Academy got a chance to meet Deputy Chief Michael Rapa with Seaford Police Department.

He says that the staffing issue is slowing down. The department recently got approved to fill up to 36 officer spaces and currently has 31 spots filled. Chief Rapa says officers are either leaving the field itself, retiring, or moving on to different agencies.

He says the applicant pool is also slowing down as he recently just tested 2 applicants for 5 positions. Chief Rapa says despite the slow down the office is equipped to protect the streets of Seaford. “The 4 we have in the academy now are replacing the positions we had, so we’ll be ahead by 1 by the end of September,” said Deputy Chief Michael Rapa of the Seaford Police Department.

If you’re debating getting into law enforcement, Chief Rapa says it’s a field you have to know you want to do, and have that drive as you put your life on the line by putting others before you, along with occupational hazards.
