Traffic Safety bills signed by Governor Carney

Traffic Bills Signed

DOVER, Del. – On the last day of the session Governor John Carney signed a package of bills into law aimed at making Delaware’s roadways safer.

The rules establish higher standards for child seats in the state, and stiffer penalties for speeding, with another bill establishing tougher penalties for reckless driving.

Senators Kyle Evans Gay and Kyra Hoffner say they are thrilled to be able to protect Delawareans on the roads, especially from drivers going over 90 miles per hour.

“You’re going to see changes for moving over for snow plows and people slowing down because no the penalties for going over 90 miles per hour are there and make no bones about it if you’re going to exceed 90 you will face collateral consequences,” said Senator Kyle Evans Gay.

“We didn’t want them to have a criminal record so the penalties cleaning up litter the first time, or to go traffic school, and you will be appearing in court if you are going over 90,” Senator Kyra Hoffner said adding “If you’re going 60 that’s getting hit with 13 tons you can live, going 90 that’s over 30 tons of force you cannot walk away.”

They say the bills will help protect DelDot workers and police as well, from faster drivers as we head into the holiday weekend.
