Salisbury University student places first at NPC Bodybuilding show
SALISBURY, Md – A local Salisbury student is celebrating a well-earned victory today after placing first place at the Clash of the Titanz NPC Bodybuilding tournament in Georgia.
21-year-old Ryan Reeling places 1st in Mens Classic Physique and 1st overall within the division.
Reeling tells 47ABC the victory was a result of months of intensive diet, training, and discipline, where every single meal was tracked down to the calorie.
“I was living like a monk almost, eating 6,000 calories a day, and sometimes that can be hard, my family, my life taking a pause, basically every single thing I ate for months on end I had to check with my coach,” Reeling said.
He tells he know he was placing high when he received the first call out to move to the center of the stage during pre-judging, a sign that the coaches were impressed with his physique.
He tells us he continued to place high throughout the day, and it became clear to him he was moving past his goal of placing high enough to earn points to qualify for a future NPC event, and into his goal of winning the event outright.
“I had a show before this last March, I was not happy with, the conditioning wasn’t right the package wasn’t there, and I had this what-if, so I wanted to approach this event with everything that I had, that way if I don’t win it just means I am not ready,” Reeling said.
He tells us he was overjoyed as he was announced as the 1st place and overall Men’s Classic Physique winner.
There were a lot of sacrifices, a lot of time in the last year where I was thinking is this worth it, all that to have that accumulate at that moment and to hear my name called I just was astonished,” he said adding “I went out there and got lined up for the picture and the trophy and the second I got off stage I got emotional and started tearing up.”
He tells us he’s thankful to his family, friends, coach, and girlfriend for giving him the support to get the win but he tells he’s already got another prize in mind. the NPC Universe show in Teaneck New Jersey.
If Reeling places high enough he tells he could get his Pro-Card and begin competing at the highest level of bodybuilding, the IFBB.
“The goal is to lock in the training, the diet for these 3 weeks, show up with the conditioning, the best package I can,” Reeling said.
