Diakonia approved to build 42 affordable housing units
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Diakonia is proposing 42 affordable housing units to help battle homelessness.
The project has already been approved by Worcester County but some logistical items still need to be handled. Diakonia says 36% of Worcester County households fall below the Alice standards which include a livable expense ratio.
Those numbers come from a study conducted by the United Way. Diakonia says residents on the shore also make 20 thousand less than the state average.
“It’s our plan to subsidize the unit upon completion of goals which include potential employment with partnerships in the area and even the possibility of home ownership sites. And while the units have a preference towards veterans that we already serve, they’ll be open to those also in our shelter program,” Ken Argot, Executive Director of Diakonia Incorporated said.
The project could happen within the next two to five years.
Homes are planned for just South of Sunset Avenue in Ocean City. Diakonia Inc. is acecpting donations for this project.
