AAA Pushes “Slow Down, Mover Over” messaging ahead of 4th of July Weekend

MARYLAND – The 4th of July is shaping up to be one of the busiest on record according to AAA. Regional Spokeswoman Regina Ali tells us millions of Americans will hit the, in what can be one of the most dangerous weekends of the year.
This year they are highlighting the need to slow down and move over, this, after a fatal crash that killed a triple technician on the side of the road in Queen Anne’s County this time last year.
AAA says despite that crash, their messaging of safe driving around disabled vehicles is working as MSP Data shows that tickets cited for the Slow Down Move Over violations are down in 2022 and are low in 2023.

“Over the years the citations for slow down move-over violations are declining so that would suggest that drivers are starting to understand what the law is and drivers are in fact following the laws,” said AAA Mid-Atlantic Coordinator Ragina Ali.

She tells us her number one message for drivers is to not drive distracted and to be prepared for delays across major highways and roads, as well as to get the word out to drivers in Virginia, that their Slow Down Mover Over law will now apply to disabled vehicles starting July 1st.
