4th of July fireworks to return to Ocean City: what to know
OCEAN CITY, Md. – For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, 4th of July fireworks are finally returning to Ocean City. In 2020, the displays were cancelled because of the virus. Then, a pre-show explosion nixed plans in 2021. And, in 2022, vendor and labor shortages stopped the shows before they could begin.
This year, town officials are hoping for a triumphant return. “I think it’s going to be really good. We’re excited about it, and hopefully the weather will cooperate,” said Ocean City Director of Tourism and Business Development, Tom Perlozzo.
And if you’re worried about getting a good view, don’t. The town will be setting off two displays; one at North Division Street Beach downtown, and one at Northside Park at 125th Street uptown.
“If you want to be right underneath it [downtown], you have the ability to,” said Perlozzo. “Uptown, there’s plenty of room. It’s a 58 acre park at Northside Park. If you want to be right underneath the show, anywhere in the park, just bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening. It should be a great show.”
Downtown, the U.S. Army Band will provide patriotic entertainment. “They will be playing before the fireworks, and during the fireworks,” said Perlozzo. “It should add a patriotic theme while the fireworks are going off.”
Perlozzo says the spectacle typically draws large crowds; So, be sure to plan ahead.
“They both start at 9:30 p.m. So, get there early and grab a seat,” said Perlozzo. “It’s going to take a little extra time. So, pack your patience. But, we love the crowd. We welcome everyone to come in.”
The fireworks are free and open to all. If you do plan to attend, bring blankets and/or beach chairs. Town officials are also asking drivers to consider taking the bus, as parking is expected to be hard to find. Bus fares are $4 daily.
