Wicomico County Health Department highlights resources to quit smoking on World No Tobacco Day

Quit Tobacco Day

SALISBURY, Md – May 31st marks International Quit Tobacco Day, with the World Health Organization pushing those looking to quit to take the first step of 24 hours without nicotine or tobacco products.
The Wicomico County Health Department says they have a variety of resources available for those looking to cut down on or stop the habit.

They’re handing out quit kids including a tobacco use tracker, gum, mints, and lollipops to help deal with the compulsive behaviors that drive addiction known as triggers.

They say using those in place of smoking can help to ease dependence, while they say they are pushing messages to highlight the benefits of stopping to smoke, a move they say has seen more success than highlighting risks.

“What we find is most people who smoke many do not want to smoke and they know the harm so what we try to teach them is to show them the positive things of not smoking- on your health how much better you will feel,” said Health Department Carol Fenner.

Those looking for resources can contact the health department at 410-334-3480.
