SU honors 10th President during inauguration ceremony

SALISBURY, Md – Members of the Salisbury University community gathered on the square Friday to celebrate the inauguration of the school’s tenth president Dr. Carolyn Lepre, who says she is focused on moving the school forward and a focus on education media and diversity as she takes the reigns.

“It is incredibly humbling it is really overwhelming in some respects these many people are putting their trust and faith in my leadership,” Dr. Lepre said.

Her ceremony featured speakers from the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, her professional colleagues from years passed, and an alumni network that stretched all the way back to the SU Class of 1950.

Dr. Lepre tells us it’s been a long road to get to this point, but she’s excited to take on a new role and highlight her passion for being student-focused.

“Every time I meet another student I want to hear their story, what makes education important for them, what’s their path, what’s their success and what that means for someone in my position is that I’m a facilitator over anything else,” she said adding “I can try and help pave the way for all the amazing faculty and staff to do the things to help each and every student.”

The focus now she tells us; bringing the school into the future, with an even greater focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion from hiring to programming.

“A lot of this is not new we are just going to continue the forward momentum so we are bringing more programs we are going to bring in a new vp of DEI and we are going have students engaged in the process all along the way so we know we are doing what is right for them.

“I think we have to keep telling our story we have to keep showing off what is extraordinary about this institution we have so much going on that is good that’s great and we need to make sure other people know the kind of quality work we are doing here and for our students,” she said.
