Pallet home residents get veterinarian care for their pets

GEORGETOWN, Del. – In Georgetown some furry friends are getting the assistance they need as their owners are experiencing homelessness.

“Vaccinations, de-worming, and preventatives overall for the 9 kitties that are living here and we will be scheduling them for spay/neuter,” Laura Page, Senior Operations Manager with the Brandywine Valley SPCA said.

Laura Page with BVSPCA says this event is right on time as it’s spring kitten season. “This has already been a tough kitten season, last year we didn’t see nearly as many kittens that we’re seeing this year, and of course, the answer to that is spay/neuter,” Page said.

One resident in the village says the care his two furry friends, Shorty and Baby got was the cat’s meow. “They got flea medicine, they got their chip, and dental work and they got looked at,” Resident Frencisco Santos said.

Even though they have four legs and a tail, making sure the cats are looking and ‘feline’ good is important because they’re not just pets. They’re family.

“She’s my best pal now we’re not cat owners we’re pals with each other when somebody asks me how many in your immediate family, I say 4, my cats count as people because they are,” Santos said.

“So for the residents here to be able to have the one being in their life that makes no judgment and loves them unconditionally makes all the difference in the world and we want to make sure that emotional support friend for them stays happy, healthy, good nutrition,” Page added.

Yarn and Bone Pet Supply and Grooming were also on hand making custom harnesses for all the kitties. You can find that information on their website.
