Heacook Fest rescheduled for August
DELMAR, Md. – The much-anticipated Heacook Fest has a new date after being canceled late last month.
The event, originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 30th, has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 27th.
Heacook Fest aims to bring the community together to honor the life and legacy of Delmar Police Corporal Keith Heacook and find a path forward toward healing. The benefit concert is set to feature live performances by Jimmy Charles, LOCASH, and Wyse Guys. All proceeds are still set to support Operation We Care, Tunnel to Towers, and Behind the Line.
“Keith gave his life for our community. We have to honor him, whether it’s the weekend that it happened [or not],” said Hughes. “That’s how it’s going to be forever. He was very important, and he died in vain. We’re hoping that keeping his name alive, keeps what we’re working toward alive.”
On April 25th, 2021, Cpl. Heacook was viciously attacked while answering a call for service alone. The attack ultimately led to Cpl. Heacook’s death; rocking the small community and sharpening its sense of support for each other.
“This is going to be a part of Delmar for as long as I’m part of the property, as long as Doug [Marshall]’s around. This is something that we’ll always do,” said Hughes.
Heacook Fest will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kylan Barn Amphitheater in Delmar.
