Former Princess Anne Town Manager reflects his legacy

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Tuesday we told you about Princess Anne residents’ concerns about how local government is operating.

Town Manager Clayton Anderson resigned from his position but tell us that when he stepped foot in office there was much work to get done. He says there was no office staff, the police department was understaffed, along with public works. But he made it his duty to make a change and strengthen the area.

“I wanted to get those departments staffed so that we could provide citizens with the essential services that they needed. I also wanted to make sure that the town’s finances were in order,” Former Princess Anne Town Manager, Clayton Anderson said.

Over his two years of service, Anderson says he had his eye on economic development, business retention, and recruitment. He says strategic planning is crucial as well as having an outlook for the next 10 to 15 years. Anderson says it is important to keep the community involved.

He says he hopes to see more unity in local government moving forward. “There needs to be continuity of government because when you have constant turnover it does erode the public’s faith in government,” Anderson said.

Residents currently have a petition out to get Commissioner Lionel Frederick out of office who was recently censured. The next town council meeting will be June 5th at 6:30 P.M. at the Garland Hayward Youth Center.
