Flags for Heroes Display returning in Ocean Pines
OCEAN PINES, Md – Ocean Pines residents can expect a sea of American flags on display this Memorial Day weekend.
The Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation is bringing back their Flags For Heroes, which will fly in Veterans Memorial Park, along Route 589.
The group says a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, adding it’s not just for veterans.
The flags also honor first responders, health care workers, teachers, and even their children in a display that gets bigger every year.
“Every year has been a beautiful tribute to the heroes in people’s lives it has been growing every year every year there are more and more flags installed,” said Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation President Marie Gilmore.
Gilmore tells 47ABC when the display began it had around nearly 100 flag submissions and has grown to over 240 submissions last year. a number of organizers say they hope to top this year.
