Delaware Moms Demand Action on Del. “Permit To Purchase” bill passing Senate

DOVER, Del. – Delaware Moms Demand Action are applauding the Senate’s passage of legislation that would require a permit to purchase a handgun.

The group says this is the furthest the measure has come since being introduced, that’s after Moms Demand Action volunteers gathered at the statehouse for their annual advocacy day to meet with lawmakers to pass Senate Bill 2.
They say the bill has undergone some changes to make the permitting process more cost-efficient and easier to get up and running once passed and they are praising the efforts of Senator Tizzy Lockman to push the bill forward.

“The permitting piece of it- it used to be the permit was good for 180 days now its good for a full year, and they also delaying the implementation slightly it was going to be 6 months now it’s 18,” said Delaware Moms Demand Action Chapter Lead Mara Gorman.

Gorman says Gorman tells us she believes the bills will help to prevent impulsive gun purchases that have been shown to lead to shootings and suicides.

Gorman tells 47ABC the number one cause of death for children ages 1-19 in the US is gun violence, and she hopes the new permitting system can help to combat that trend.

The bill now heads to the Delaware House for consideration.
